State Farm Properties

The Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services conveyed a conservation easement on 73 acres of former State Farm land on Crossett Hill in 2004. This was the first of three parcels to be conserved in accordance with the Town of Duxbury Zoning Ordinance. The conservation easement, held by the DLT, allows a variety of agricultural and forestry activities such as sugaring, but no development. The purposes of the easement are to conserve wildlife, scenic, natural communities, and open space. The conserved parcel is part of a larger property on which residential development is allowed. The acquisition of this property is significant because it helps realize the vision of townspeople in developing the State Farm master plan, which called for a mix of development and conservation of the former state property.
